Committee Competencies and Time Commitments
The College has developed a document outlining the competencies required to serve on College committees, passed by Council. You can review that here.
For 2025 committee appointments, there is a specific need for the following:
- Experience dealing with trauma informed investigations/deliberations/adjudication (Inquiries, Complaints, Reports Committee, Discipline Committee)
- Experience dealing with professional boundaries / sexual abuse (Inquiries, Complaints, Reports Committee, Discipline Committee, Patient Relations Committee)
- Experience in mental health/incapacity matters (Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee)
- General Dentists (all committees)
- Specialists in various disciplines including oral surgery, orthodontics, periodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics (Professional Liability Program, Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee)
- Experience with an organization in finances and financial risk management (Finance, Audit & Risk Committee)
- Equity, Diversity and inclusion are a priority for the College and we particularly encourage applications from under-represented populations including persons of colour, Indigenous persons, internally trained dentists, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, women, individuals with disabilities, dentists in remote communities (all committees)
The committee compositions and terms of reference are set out in By-law 4. The approximate time commitments for the committees are set out below.

4 days per year + additional meetings, as needed |
Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee |
1-2 days/month (average meeting length 5-6 hours) and 2 days of preparation/month per full day panel |
Discipline Committee |
10-12 days per year. The time commitment may be lessened if there are more uncontested hearings than contested hearings |
Fitness to Practise Committee |
0-2 half days per year |
Quality Assurance Committee |
5-6 full days per year (virtual meetings and 1 in person meeting). Occasional brief (15-60 min) teleconference meetings to address time sensitive matters |
Registration Committee |
6 half days per year + teleconference meetings as needed |
Patient Relations Committee |
4 half days per year |
Professional Liability Committee |
4 days per year |
Finance, Audit and Risk Committee |
4-5 days per year |
Governance Committee |
2 days per year + 3 half days + 4-5 x ¼ days per year virtual meetings |
